PRHS/BMWMS Library & Information Center Mission Statement
To Promote lifelong learning by providing diverse resources and activities that encourage all to use their minds well.

PRHS/BMWMS Library & Information Center Goals:
The Library & Information Center at Poland Regional High School and Bruce M. Whittier Middle School is a central resource of learning inquiry. The primary goal of the center is to promote student achievement by supporting the mission and belief statement of PRHS and BMWMS. This includes building the competence of all members of the school community in the use of a rich and diverse array of media that directly relates to the PRHS/BMWMS Program of Studies, the Maine Learning Results, and addresses the Core Principles outlined in Promising Futures: A Call to Improve Learning for Maine’s Secondary Students. Further, the Library & Information Center provides the opportunity for students to access intellectual ideas and grow in their enjoyment of reading, listening, and viewing a wide variety of literary and artistic works.

The primary goal of the Library & Information Center Director is also to promote student achievement. This accomplished through formal and informal instruction focused on building competencies among students in conducting in-depth research and accessing information through direct integration of information literacy skills within the curricula. The Library & Information Center Director is committed to establishing partnerships with faculty to develop collaborative inquiry and resource-based curricula and assessments and to provide ongoing in-service development on current and emerging technologies.
